Workshop Team Leader

Salary: £40,000 - £43,000

Location: Swanley, Kent

Shift: Monday to Friday - Days

We are seeking a Workshop Team Leader to oversee day-to-day operations within a busy materials handling workshop. Leading a small team of engineers, you will ensure efficient maintenance, service and repair of a variety of Material Handling Equipment (MHE), while upholding high standards of performance and safety.

Key Responsibilities of the Workshop Team Leader:

  • Lead, support and mentor workshop engineers to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality outputs
  • Oversee reactive and planned maintenance activities across a range of MHE
  • Conduct fault diagnosis and provide guidance on effective repair solutions
  • Manage daily workload, prioritising tasks to minimise downtime
  • Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to all health & safety procedures

Key Requirements for Workshop Team Leader:

  • Strong mechanical background in forklifts, automotive, plant or similar sectors
  • Recognised mechanical engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in a workshop-based role, ideally with leadership or mentoring responsibilities
  • Confident communicator with excellent problem-solving skills

Ideal Backgrounds:

  • FLT or MHE engineering experience
  • Automotive or vehicle mechanics
  • Ex-Forces with mechanical and supervisory experience
