The Role of the Automation Engineer

This is a hands-on Automation Engineer position within a high-volume FMCG manufacturing environment. You will take ownership of site automation systems, supporting, improving and future-proofing PLC-controlled production lines to maximise reliability, efficiency and food safety compliance.

You'll work closely with engineering, production and continuous improvement teams and play a key role in bringing automation capability in-house, with clear scope to progress into leading an automation team as the site continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities for the Automation Engineer

• Maintain and fault-find PLC-controlled systems
• Modify and Program Allan Bradley & Siemen PLCs
• Support HMI and SCADA systems across site
• Diagnose and resolve I/O and industrial network issues
• Assist with commissioning of new machinery and automation upgrades
• Work with OEMs and system integrators on capital and improvement projects
• Ensure compliance with food safety, quality and site standards
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and production

   

  Essential Experience & Skills for the Automation Engineer

• Proven PLC fault-finding and modification experience (programming preferred)
• Strong experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs
• Background in manufacturing / factory environments (UK experience essential)
• Understanding of control systems, breakdown response and commissioning
• Engineering qualification (electrical, automation or controls)
